The Saree: 1961-1970
Painted, embroidered, sequinned, the border is often the focus of the 1960s sari and is far more varied than the 1930s brocade borders.
This is true even of the more traditional woven sarees occurs often in the 1960s.
The plain sari is around of course, but not always spotted is the hakoba sari with a blouse in the same fabric.
Pale shades predominate for the saris though now and then you will encounter full on red with liberal sequins.
As for the decade’s oddities let’s never forget the pompom saree!! (Jewel Thief, 1967).
