Indian Fashion Vocab: Part 1
The Khan Saree:
Traditionally worn by women in Maharashtra and Karnataka, the saree got its name from the square pattern of this fabric which comes in vibrant colours of nature- primarily in the metallic shades- reds, blues, combined with fluorescent greens with various patterns of flowers, accessories and geometric shapes… and majorly used just for blouse materials

Talking about the process of creation- even changing one coloured patch means the weaver has to connect over 4000 yarns on the loom manually.

I have paired it up with Kolhapuri saaj and other oxidised jewellery.

The origin of the fabric dates back to roughly 4000 years. But this fabric started losing its relevance and is one of the lesser known fabrics of the country. Hoping this video will give more attention to the khan saree and its weavers whose only source of livelihood is creating this sparkling coloured sarees.

And I am sure a khan saree will quickly light up your mood in any traditional gatherings.
