In 2016, Miles began working on a 20-man crew within her tribe\u2019s fire department. With the job\u2019s focus was on teamwork, strength, and helping others, Miles immediately felt she\u2019d found her place. \u201cYou\u2019re out working with 20 people, usually on mop-up duty getting dirty and digging lines,\u201d she says. \u201cMy goal is just to keep learning and moving up.\u201d Accomplishing that means rigorous training and maintaining your wits in high-pressure situations. \u201cEvery summer I\u2019m taking a physical exam to make sure my health is in order [and] the PAC test is wearing this 45lb vest while running three miles in under 45 minutes, so it\u2019s intense,\u201d says Miles. \u201cI prefer engine crew, though as I don\u2019t want to go overboard and break my body, but even driving can be incredibly dangerous. We\u2019re out in the mountains where there are woodland fires and limited road access so you have to worry about dead trees or traffic on these single lane roads.\u201d <\/p>\n
The Victoria\u2019s Secret opportunity came while Miles was living in Idaho and arrived as a welcome surprise. \u201cI\u2019m honestly still shocked that this happened,\u201d she says. \u201cI had a casting agency email me and say I should apply for this, and I didn\u2019t think anything of it. A month passed, and I didn\u2019t hear back, so I just assumed I didn\u2019t get the job, no big deal. Then the night before, I get a phone call telling me to pack my bags!\u201d Once she made the trip to Los Angeles for the shoot, Miles was thrilled to see the warm environment on set. \u201cIt was refreshing, there was such excitement backstage,\u201d she says. \u201cEveryone was so welcoming. The creative director and crew were embracing each other and so happy that this campaign was coming to light because it wasn\u2019t just another photoshoot for them.\u201d TODAY I got to sit down with this amazing person!
